Obesity Rodent Models Applied to Research with Food Products and Natural Compounds

Obesity is a disease whose incidence has increased over the last few decades. Despite being multifactorial disease, obesity results essentially from excessive intake of high-calorie foods associated with low physical activity. The demand for pharmacological therapy using natural compounds as an alternative to synthetic drugs increased. Natural may have adverse effects and high economic impact, most them can be extracted underexploited plant species food by-products. To test potential anti-obesogenic new substances, use preclinical animal models been important tool, among which rat mouse are used. Some monogenic, such db/db mice, ob/ob Zucker fatty Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima rat. There also available chemical neurotoxin monosodium glutamate that induces lesions in ventromedial hypothalamus nucleus, resulting development obesity. However, widely used induced by high-fat diets. aim this review was compile detail studies on anti-obesity or their derivatives rodent well critical analysis data.
